Situated in the southwestern portion of New Jersey and stretching toward the Delaware River, Burlington County has a blend of suburban growth and large tracts of rural land and preserved forest/farmland. Key municipalities include Mount Laurel, Moorestown, Medford, and Burlington City. Historically, this area went from early colonial settlements to canal and river infrastructure, farmland and woodland, and now suburban sprawl from the Philadelphia region. Homes range from older farmhouses and modest suburban homes to newer large-lot luxury homes, especially in the more rural and preserved sections. The land‐rich parts provide opportunities for home building on acreage. The area’s classification is mixed rural/suburban—and closer to Philadelphia (about 30–40 miles) for commuting. Typical existing home prices can range from the $300k–$400k for older homes in modest neighborhoods, up toward $600k–$800k or more in newer luxury developments. For build‐on‐land lots in rural portions, if land is available in the $200k–$400k range, plus building at say $200–$300 per sq ft, building a 3,000 sq ft home might cost $600k–$900k plus land cost. Overall Burlington offers value relative to more northern counties, a mixture of rural space and suburban access.
